Our Opthalmology department is situated on the Southeast coast of Norway in the city of Arendal. Arendal`s history dates back to the 16th century when it was established as one of Norway’s important centers for shipping, shipbuilding, mining, timber and iron trade. Arendal was recognized as a major shipping center with many wealthy ship owners who contributed to the city`s architectural appearance. Arendal is famous for it’s small white houses with small picked fences close to the sea. This together with Arendal`s beautiful archipelago has made Arendal one of Norway’s most attractive places to spend leisure time and houses many cottages.
Today Arendal is a city with approximately 50000 inhabitants. Its center for many cultural festivals during the summer period and can offer leisure activities like windsurfing, sailing, kayaking. Aust-Agder municipality can offer a wide range of winter sport activities with great mountains for trekking, cross-country or downhill skiing in the winter. See more on the link: Visit norway

All eye treatment and eye surgery at Sørlandet Hospital is performed in Arendal. The Department of Ophthalmology in Arendal serves the population of both Aust Agder and Vest Agder counties, with approx. 280.000 residents. The department has an in-patient ward, outpatient clinic, retina clinic and surgical wards. 

Our department has 10 Ophthalmologists, 5 resident doctors, 5 optometrists. We have two operating theaters (OR) and are conducting a wide range of operative treatments including strabismus surgery. We opened in 2018 a brand new children’s department where you can engage and work in interdisciplinary teams around each case.  

The Department of Ophthalmology has a retina clinic for medical treatment of retinal disorders, a modern and well-equipped ophthalmology outpatient clinic, 2 surgical wards and a femtosecond laser for cataract surgery. In addition to the general ophthalmology outpatient clinic, we have a separate outpatient clinic for paediatric stereopsis. We perform strabismus surgery and have extensive services in the field of cataract surgery, medical retina treatment, glaucoma surgery, oculoplasty, and paediatric ophthalmology, in addition to the general ophthalmology outpatient clinic.

Our orthoptist works in a team with an optician and ophthalmologist in a separate, newly renovated outpatient clinic for paediatric stereopsis. 

We are currently seeking:  Full time permanent Orthoptist (37,5 hour/week)

  • Possible vision field examinations, fundus photography and other outpatient tasks
Qualifications
